The Mark Tiner Memorial Scholarships were established by a bond between two brothers: Mark & Sean Tiner. The brothers grew up in Laguna Beach, CA, where Mark earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout and was a member of the Laguna Beach Presbyterian Church.
During his sophomore year at Laguna Beach High School, Mark and his friend passed away in a nonalcoholic related automobile accident. Sean, his family and community were devastated. In an effort to keep Mark’s dream of higher education alive, Sean established various college scholarships in Mark's name to help provide finance assistance to graduating high school seniors.
Today, with the support of close help of friends, family and donors, Sean awards annual college scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Over the years, more than $35,000 in scholarships of $1,000 increments have been awarded from endowed funds to recipients of the Mark Tiner Memorial Foundation, "Big Tiny" Spirit Award and Mark Tiner Financial Needs Scholarship, a fund of The Orange County Community Foundation.
Sean currently volunteers & advises on the City of Laguna Beach’s Recreation Committee. The members of the advise City Council on issues regarding the recreation and park needs and desires of the community.
Sean and his wife, Ashley Tiner, love to stay active & hike California! In 2013, they created Go Hike It, a popular outdoor hiking blog sharing their outdoor adventures.
Go Hike It! outlines various Southern California hiking trails and recently has expanded to cover regions like Colorado, Hawaii, Portland, Arizona, and even Europe! From directions to parking to intensity levels, Go Hike It! is an ultimate guide for hiking adventures!
